Michelle + Bruce’s Romantic Engagement Session at Garry Point Park, Richmond, BC

A couple embrace at sunset in a park of cherry trees, smiling as they lean in for a kiss.

We had the most ideal circumstances – minus the people. The cherry blossoms started to bloom earlier than originally anticipated, and though not completely open, still showcased their hues of pink. Contrasting against the deep blue sky, and with the warmth of the sun blanketing Garry Point Park, the evening conditions were perfect!!

If you had told me when I posted my giveaway that I would have a couple from the Lower Mainland enter, a couple who shares very similar values to me and my business, I would’ve called you crazy.

But this is exactly what happened with Michelle + Bruce, and their romantic session amidst the cherry blossom trees at Garry Point Park in Richmond, BC felt like it was straight out of a dream.

I drove from West Kelowna to Surrey earlier that day, bringing my daughter along so we could visit with my husband’s family. Having not seen them for quite some time, it was a wonderful way to start the lower mainland events. We visited for some time, and when it came time for me to head for Richmond, Lila was so comfortable with her cousins that I had no reason to worry that she’d miss me. And she probably didn’t because she had SO much fun with all of them.

Leaving probably earlier than I needed to, I made my way out toward the King George Highway. Sometime before I merged onto the highway, my low oil light came on, and after a quick call to my husband, knew I’d have to pull off to top up. I got onto the King George, merged from there onto the 99, and sometime later pulled off to get what I needed. It took all of 5 minutes to top up, and then I was on my way again.

Fast forward several minutes, and I arrived in the Steveston area, finding myself awe-inspired by the village-like feel. As I grew closer, it sunk in fully how busy the park would be, and upon noticing the first parking lot, pulled off.

I walked a couple of blocks before getting to the entrance to the park, texting Michelle to let her know I was there. She mentioned they had arrived as well and would be along shortly. I walked through the first grove of trees, finding the little grill, Garry Point Grill + Fish ‘N’ Chips, which smelled amazing. I assume the food was great too, as people were lined up for quite some distance.

After a quick chat with another photo enthusiast, Michelle and Bruce found me, and we began our escapades.

Locating places to take their photos with minimal people and beautiful lighting was a challenge. But I love a good challenge, and with the knowledge of AI in my back pocket, I didn’t worry too much (until I got to editing all the people out of the images and realized I should’ve put more effort into angles when shooting 😆).

The atmosphere was lovely, and after shooting around the trees for a while, we went for a walk toward the pier.

Michelle +Bruce shared so many of their favourite places with me, treating me to an absolutely delicious Cotton Candy gelato, and informing me of the history of the area. The session quickly turned into an exploration adventure, and I couldn’t get enough.

After some photos around the docks and pier, we returned to the cherry blossoms for sunset, finding a less-busy spot where we first started to shoot, where the sun shone PERFECTLY through the trees. This was the perfect opportunity for the softer, more intimate poses, and I loved capturing them here.

Our session wrapped up fairly quickly after that, and before we left, Michelle kindly offered to take a photo of me with the trees, as I had never been to Garry Point Park before – or seen the cherry blossoms bloom. It was seriously the best way to end the session.

The three of us walked out of the park together, saying our goodbyes as we got to my car. I then made the drive back to Surrey to pick up Lila.

You two, thank you so much for letting me come take your photos. I am so happy you entered my giveaway – Michelle + Bruce, you two are such sweet people
