And just like that, 2019 is over. 2020 is now here, and for the past week, all I’ve seen on social media is positivity toward the new year. I think it’s awesome that so many individuals are looking forward to this new decade (can you believe it’s a new decade?! I didn’t clue in until I noticed someone post about that on Instagram!!).
2019 wasn’t my easiest year, but by far it was my most successful, I think. I booked more weddings this past year than I have in any other year of my business, and while it’s still not where I’d like to be, I’m so grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given!!
At the beginning of the year, I photographed some gorgeous women while I still pursued Boudoir photography. I later decided that it wasn’t something I wanted to pursue, but I’m so glad I was able to try it out while I had the chance!!
After that, I took a break. I felt overwhelmed and exhausted and burnt out. I intended to quit being a professional photographer, mainly because it caused me so much stress.
I had the chance to work with an amazing business this past year. Thistle and Sage played such a crucial part in my business this year. If it weren’t for Willy convincing me otherwise, I wouldn’t have started accepting bookings again!!
Then, at the end of August I received an exciting email!! The Brooks Bandits wanted ME to do their photography again. I had been their photographer for half of their 2015/2016 year, and for their entire 2016/2017 season, both as volunteer!! Due to getting incredibly burnt out between working full-time as the manager at Pet Valu toward the end (before new owners took over), I couldn’t continue into the next season. They had another local photographer shoot for them the past two seasons, so I was incredibly flattered to be asked to be their official photographer, once again!!
On top of this, I finally got my spine referral seen by a clinic in Calgary, and I’ll be pursuing that this month. We (my husband and I) also found out in September that we are expecting a baby in May 2020!!
It's been a wonderful year, filled with all sorts of things that have helped me grow as a person and as a photographer. This next year will bring new challenges that I know will be crucial to my growth, and I look forward to having the chance to overcome them so even better things can happen with this business!!
