It was a bit chilly and snowy for my sister Stephanie and Devan's enchanting wintery couple's session in Banff National Park, Alberta!! Steph and I had been chatting about doing photos for the two of them for some time. After seeing another photographer (who I greatly admire) post photos they had done out at Lake Minnewanka, I knew we had to do Steph and Dev's photos there too!! So Devan booked them a hotel in Banff and we made it a plan!!
Fast forward to November 14th. Cal and I had just sold the truck the night before, so Cal prepped the car that morning so I wouldn't be uncomfortable on the long drive. We left Brooks around ten AM, planning to meet them at the lake for around two. The drive was gorgeous, snow falling for a time as we left the county. Lila did really well, too, and we only had to stop once at the PetroCan on the west side of Calgary to change and feed her.
When we got to the Lake, the mountains were socked in, snowing lightly on and off. But that changed quickly as we found a parking spot. Coincidentally we parked right beside Devan's SUV.
Cal worked on organizing Lila in the carrier while Steph, Devan, and I made our way down the path. We were headed for the iconic rocky island-type-thing, but when we arrived, there was a photographer already taking photos there with another one waiting behind with a wedding party. I was a little surprised at the busyness of the area, as two years ago it was practically deserted at that time. The weather was nicer, so maybe that was why.
So we started in the trees, and I'm so glad we did because Steph's Le Chateau dress just POPPED against the dark evergreen trees.
We alternated between coat on and off for Steph, and tried to keep moving (and have them cuddling) as we went along. The sun was setting and the reflections were perfect, so we ventured around some of my favourite areas for their session.
Steph indicated she was beginning to get cold, and as we finished on another little rocky island, Devan began to make it known that he was as well. So we finished off with them sharing a kiss on the beach before heading back.
Originally we were going to plan to head to Bow Falls as well, but due to the time and their overall comfortability with the temperature, we ended the session there. But they did phenomenally and I am so so glad we chose to do their photos in the mountains.
