Even though it was cold, the weather was perfect for Devan's photos with his beloved dog Toby, this past Saturday in Calgary, AB.
Devan has been with my sister, Steph, for a few months now, and Cal and I have had numerous opportunities to get to know him. He's an awesome guy, and super fun to hang out with. And he makes my sister SO happy, which is amazing because she's needed someone like him in her life for so long now.
Originally, we were just going to Calgary for my injections appointment. But then earlier in the week Steph started telling me about Devan's dog Toby. The 12-year-old, black-and-white, Shar-Pei cross was badly mistreated as a puppy, by his first owners, and so his hock joints are quite disfigured. Within the last couple years, his mobility has gotten quite bad, to the point that Devan and his family have had to put multiple rugs around the more slippery surfaces of their home, just so he won't fall so frequently. He somehow made it down their basement set of stairs, and it was quite the task to get him back upstairs, as he gets very upset when someone touches his back legs. And understandably so. With everything going on, the family anticipates they don't have much time left with their beloved companion.
As we had just lost my 16-year-old kitty earlier this year, and the majority of our other childhood pets in the past few years, I know how hard it is to lose them. So, I suggested we do photos. After a little convincing that I wouldn't be too sore after my injections, Devan agreed to do some photos with Toby.
So after my appointment, we headed to the Southwest to Devan's home. Having never met Toby before, I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but he was the sweetest boy. So spirited and full of life. It's really the case where his body is failing him, but his mind is ridiculously strong. And he was so energetic. It ended up being an amazing session!!
