Adventures | White Rock Day Trip

It has been SO long since I'd last been to White Rock. Two years actually, which doesn't seem like a long time, but it definitely is to me!!

When I made plans to come out to visit my family in Kelowna, going to the Coast for a day was on the top of my to-do list. We made it a priority, since my Mom and Sister love the ocean about as much as I do!!

We left the house around 6:30 AM yesterday morning, stopping quickly for some coffee from the West Kelowna Tim Horton's before heading onto the Coquihalla Connector. It was cool but the sun was shining so it was a BEAUTIFUL drive. We even saw (what we think was) a Moose grazing in one of the little wetland areas near the highway.

Our first stop brought us to the old Toll Booth spot for a bathroom break. We used to stop in Merritt, but they closed the rest stop they had along the Connector right before you would turn onto the Coquihalla itself. So Zopkios it was!! All alongside the parking area were tons and tons of wildflowers, and after using the bathroom, I grabbed my camera to take some shots of the thistles. It wasn't until I had taken a few pictures that I realized they were actually covered in ants, and I think ant eggs as well!!

When Steph and my Mom, Michelle, came back to the car we resumed our trip. I had driven from the house to there, so Mom took over until we got into Chilliwack/Abbotsford area. Second stop became the Whatcom Road turnoff, a place we usually stop at on our trips to the coast. Not only do they have plenty of food stop options, but gas is generally cheaper there than any other place along the way. Although Bridal Falls was even cheaper than Whatcom Road, at 127.9/litre VS the 130.9/litre at Whatcom.

I drove from there, as we had to make a quick stop in Burnaby for my Dad to pick up a Model Kit he had been wanting for awhile. The shop was really neat, and reminded me of the old hobby shops we used to visit with him when we were kids!!

White Rock was our next stop, and it couldn't have been a nicer day!! The tide wasn't fully out when we arrived, but we enjoyed beach-combing anyway!! We found all sorts of shells, and itty-bitty crabs were hiding under most of the rocks!!

We stopped for lunch at Moby Dick's, because Mom hadn't ever had their fish and chips before, and they blew her away!! They have the best fish and chips I've ever had, and they always throw in an extra piece of fish!!

Our time there was limited. We arrived around 12:30 and only stayed until 2:30, but that was fine because our next stop was seeing my Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law's new house!! They moved from Calgary to the Lower Mainland back in July, and it gave me the perfect opportunity to see my adorable nieces!! And it was SO nice to see them!!

After leaving there, we stopped once more for food in Chilliwack before driving home. We didn't get in until 7:30 PM, and we were all deliriously exhausted, but it was such an amazing day for the beach.

I can't wait to be able to go again, and next time, hopefully for longer!!
